All parents want only the best for their child. This is the reason why most parents believe that giving their children everything that they want to eat is important because they are under the presumption that when their kids eat a lot, it is healthy. But little do they know that eating too much also has some complications. In a study conducted by medical experts, a child who eats too much could gain weight which is more than what he or she is supposed to during their toddler years. They have specifically pointed out that when a child who gains more weight or becomes obese during their first two years, it is very probable that they will grow obese or they are at risk of being obese in their adult life.

Because of this fact, it is important for parents to watch out for the weight of their children and ensure that they are healthy. But most parents, especially the new ones are not aware of this fact, and what it really saddening is that their pediatricians are not able to provide the necessary guidance needed by parents regarding this matter.

The Truth about a Child’s Weight

A lot of parents do not have enough information to conclude that their child is overweight. This fact is based on a study conducted by experts which states that a big percentage of parents whose children are overweight think that their child is healthy, but the truth is they are not which is evident of statistics which reveals that almost 33% of children in the United States are obese.

The role of pediatricians in these situations is very critical. But even if this is the case, it is very had for them to make the parents believe that there is a problem regarding their child’s health. This means that before parents can do anything about the condition of their child, it is important for them to first realize the fact that there is something wrong. Parents should also be guided accordingly when it comes to taking care of their child because a lot of them believe that there is nothing wrong in giving their children what they want to eat even if they do not take into consideration the amount of calories their kids take in.

How to Determine if Your Child is Obese

Because of the lack of information of some parents, they do not know if their child is perfectly healthy or not. The most important thing they need to do to make sure that they are taking care of their kids right is to consult a pediatrician. The doctor should be able to give the right information regarding their child’s health as well as give some recommendations to keep them healthy. They should also be watchful of the calories their children take in. If they notice that their child consumes food nearly as much as they eat, it is probable that their children are overweight. In addition, parents should also be aware of what their kids eat at school. It is recommended that parents should personally prepare their child’s lunch to make sure that they get the right amount of food serving.
