Vitamins for Children

During the time period from birth to ten years of age, it is very important to do everything possible to ensure that your children gets the appropriate nutrition for proper growth and development.  If children are not given this nutrition, there is a very likely chance that they will suffer from some form of a growth disorder.  In order to avoid any potential complications during this time, it is important to understand the types of nutrition that your child needs.

From the approximate ages of birth to five or six, children should not be taking any kind of multivitamins.  During this time period, your child should be receiving all of the nutrition they need from the food and liquids that they are given.  This is why it is extremely important that young children be given very nutritious choices, such as milk, healthy meats and carbohydrates, along with fresh fruits and vegetables.  On the other side, it is important to limit their exposure to unhealthy food choices, such as soft drinks and fast food.

After the age of five or six, it is important that a child begin taking vitamins.  This will not only help their growth and development, but will also aid in keeping their immune system strong.  Although your child needs to take a multivitamin, it is very important to choose a vitamin that is specifically formulated for children.  This means that even though they may seem silly to an adult, the best choice for a child is a colorful, chewy vitamin.  These vitamins are designed only for children, which is why they are the best option when trying to choose a multivitamin.  By following the proper timeline of nutrition for your child, you can ensure that they can grow up to be healthy, normal teenagers.
